The discovery of Penicillin is credited to Scottish physician
Alexander Fleming, 1928. It was actually brought into general
use through the efforts of Oxford scientists Howard Florey,
Ernst Chain, and Norman Heatley, who obtained a sample of the
"Penicillium notatum" fungus from Fleming and processed it into
a usable form, bringing it to the public around 1940.
