Encouraged by the excellent and helpful replies to my earlier Q about
pop3 smtp on a 8088 twin floppy machine, for which many thanks all, I
would appreciate help with another intractable problem.

I'm getting the following error message trying to set up a 4X
Creative CD-ROM and soundcard in a 486 DX66:

"SBCD001: Interface board or CD-ROM drive is not ready
If CD-ROM drive is not ready, please set or turn on (A)bort (R)etry"

I took the soundcard and drive out of a similar vintage 486
(where I'd seen it working) with a now dead power supply, and
transplanted it identically. DOS 6.22 appears happy with my
MSCDEX implementation and driver in config.sys and autoexec.bat

Tried all combinations of jumper settings on back of drive. Too many
on sound card to do that. It works on audio with headphones.

The IDE port for the drive comes off the soundcard. Am I right in
assuming that this can be done through the 16 bit slots without
further external leads? I have 2 HD's, so cannot spare the second
connector on the ribbon for the CD-ROM, and there is only one IDE
port on the MB.

Any pointers to where I might find the information I'm looking for
for setting this hardware up would be much appreciated.

Best wishes, Neil Taylor
