Overheating has been determined to be a problem with the timer chip on
my *XT*; the parity error occurred on my *AT*, largely because of a
setup error there, but it occasionally occurs, too, with a particular
key combination -- while using the CTRL key + Y keys (for deletion using
an editor under Net-Tamer via WordStar-style key commands). The over-
heating problem with the XT has been isolated: the timer chip is bad,
and I'm going to attempt to replace it.
Everything else is working fine with the AT now.
By the way, for those reading this who are curious, the "(s)" after
the "60000" in the parity error message refers to "system board", which
I found out in Scott Mueller's book, "Upgrading and Repairing PCs",
12th edition.
