Dear Garry
Understood (more or less ;-)) your expose.
I am already working on this computer since months because it will
not work properly. Is this opcode error caused by software only or
could it also be caused by a hardware glitch?
If I am running this computer like I doing right now, after a certain
time a screensaver sets in. So far so good. But than unattended the
screensaver just stops and the menu program is popping up, just as if
I had touched a key/mouse. I have checked all components with norton
utilities, ran an extensive memory check, all without any info on a
malfunction. The cooling fan is working. Any ideas?

Most commonly used in discussions of the CPU
and/or assembly language, the term "opcode"
(short for "operation code") is synonymous with
"instruction" (a machine language or assembly
language "verb" which instructs the CPU to do
 something).

I hope this doesn't make it more confusing that it
needs to be, but, there you go.
