I've been in email with a couple tweakers here, and thought I'd
let the rest
of you all know what's up.

I am formulating a proposal to http://www.anigma.com to create
the greenest,
most open architecture motherboard possible running the Carusoe
CPU from
http://www.transmeta.com ... these criteria come to mind:

1- both PS-2 and AT DIN keyboard and mouse jacks.
2- both 72 & 168 DRAM slots
3- Full size, for as many PCI and E)ISA slots a possible
4- cheapest possible video support with maybe AGP slot if cost
effective.
The abundance of slots would fit any other SVGA controller,
and at some
point, flat panels will get affordable, and those flats which
I have seen
requrire their own video controller card.
5- both ATX & AT (P-8 & P-9) power jacks.
a- with power and hd led LEDs on board. (You ever janked a card
not noticing
the power was still on? almost as mcuh of a rush as dribbling
hot solder on
 a motherboard.  :-}
6- Bios that uses the 'DEL' key during boot to access the CMOS.
7- On board FD, IDE, PTR, com 1 & 2, but with .1 DIP pins, not
the DB-9 or 25
on the back edge of the board (might need that area for more
slots.)
8- ZIF CPU socket
9- built in com port surge suppression. A 90v zener is only 20
cents.
10- 11-???
any suggestions for other criteria?

The idea is to construct the most reliable, crash-proof, and bug
free system
possible, running the longest on UPS batteries.. (obviously
important if you
live in California these days, or any rural area anywhere)...
which is why we
need the Carusoe chip. Intel sucks... 60 watts or so, the
former- 5 watts.

Earth technologies usta have gray scale 9" vga that ran on 8
watts for 200$.
Lotsa inkjets run off low power wall warts.

A local guru could offer a backup data service, which unlike the
net outfits
trying to, can offer hard copy printouts to local customers.

I'm trying to move my website, http://www.dc-pc.com to a new
hosting service,
so I dunno what you'd get trying to logon right now, but later
you should see
the results of this effort to offer a desktop pc that's designed
to run off
solar panels and ordinary 12vdc vehicle batteries.

Something else I'd like to see is spray-on scented wax. melting
scented candles
aint so convenient. but if you put a drop of scented way on a
chip, then button
that baby up.... if later on you suddenly smell patchouli, you
know the chip's
hot.
