166MHz computes are concidered to be a SurvPC these days.

However, it seems like DivX video files which are concidered to take
lots of resources, can be ran on 166 computers. Me and a friend (Uri)
managed to run a pretty big and high quality file on such a system.

Here are the parameters, for those intrested in this as well:

CPU: 166MHz (MMX)
Motherboard: 66MHz (Overclocked to 88MHz)
Memory: 32MB
OS: Windows 95
Player: Windows Media Player 6.0
Drivers: Latest Win32 DivX ;) drivers from the DivX site.

Why does it work: Basicly, a 166MHz computer is concidered to be
"below the minimum". However, it seems like besides the obvious
benefit of overclocking the motherboard, the MMX also really helped-
and not just because it "helps accelerate graphics", but also because
MMX chips have a larger cache then non-MMX chips.

Media Player 6.0 is the "minimum required" for DivX, as far as I
know, though I also managed to run most DivX files with the basic
Media Player that comes with Win95. (I'd still recommend using etleast
version 6.0, though.. 6.4 would be the best one to use on Win95.)

Except for getting stuck every now and then, it ran absolutly ok.
When it gets stuck - just pause the movie, go back a second or two,
and resume. This should clear the problem and let it continue normaly.

Have fun! :)
