I just know I found it easy to understand. I use the find feature, but
I've also gone over it key by key reading what's there and comparing it to
applications I know I have. I learned that if an application isn't
installed, it doesn't need to be there, so if I've uninstalled it or know
for sure it's not there, i can delete all reference to it.
I just read whatever's there regarding the search string I've put in. If I
don't feel confident that I know why it's there, I leave it alone.
You can restore to a backup registry at the command prompt, booting to dos
instead of windows, by running scanreg.
msconfig is there, either in c:\windows or a sub directory like system or
command. just type it in the run dialog box and it'll come up. It could
be set hidden and no visible, but it will run. run dialog: startmenu, run,
type msconfig and press enter.

You teach yourself. You find knowledgeable ppl and they explain or show it
to you, and you learn it. With a car you learn how to check your own oil,
even replace it and clean your spark plugs. You seek that knowledge to
increase your resourcefulness. I did take courses, but most of that I'd
already learned, lots here. If you would rather ask details off list, I
will describe, and describe again in ever more detail, even if I have to
send you screen shots, until you can do it, if you want to learn. If you
want to run an application that just takes over for you, then good
luck. If you want to learn how to adjust the system manually, ask me, I'll
happily teach. It IS possible to tune your windows system as tightly as
any DOS system and no more difficult. If you say DOS isn't difficult I
will refer you to the math in memory management!
It's all just learning
