Internet access costs money, and not being able to save the driver(s) I'll need to redownload them the next time as well. And if I have several machines with the same hardware? I need to get it several times :( > Well, the book was obviously written for Linux GURU's, because I knew nothing about >"recompileing the kernel"--I tried that after reinstalling the dang thing about 3 >times, and I kept getting "KERNEL PANIC" messages!! ARRGH!!! You don't need to be a Linux Guru, being a C guru is good wnough ;-) Seriously, you shouldn't have tried this. You noticed yourself that it would be hard. >But when I went shopping for software for my new OS, I found NOTHING!!!! None of my >favorite games were even MADE for UNIX or LINUX!!! Agreed, Linux don't have many games. Some it do have are these: Civilization III, Quake I/II/III, Doom I/II (and most likely III when it comes as well). But I alsmot never play games so I don't know more than that. >I went and fired up Netscape, and woo-wee, netscape loaded netscape netcenter, and >LOCKED UP!! Netscape in Unix is the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. They need to get their act together, they have money knowledge and time to fix it but it's still as unstable as it ever was. The Windows version almost never crashes for me strangely enough. >I really missed Internet Explorer's fast speed and NO LOCKUPS! Speed? They are more or less equally fast. The only thing I've noticed is that differs is that PNGs is faster in Netscape (and a lot faster as well). IE does start faster but that's just because parts of it is already loaded. And scrolling? Oh my god, I feel like a brand new Duron 750 (that's what I got, DOS is still my primary OS) should be enough, but when I scroll in IE it's so terribly slow. Since I never use WinMe for Internet I havent installed Netscape or Opera, but I've thought about it several times. And lockups? IE locks up tight, try and have your machine running over night (I have one at the university as we speak), after a few days IE will be totaly useless. Besides, IE isn't close to being compatible to standard. If it wasn't for webmasters/designers creating things to also work in IE (although most think they do it the other way around) you couldn't use it at many places. //Bernie To unsubscribe from SURVPC send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe SURVPC in the body of the message.
