SPAM does not have a social function. Being spammed cannot be compared
to receiving junk mail in your postal mailbox. People who send junk
mail to your postal mailbox pay the postage. When you receive SPAM,
you pay for the costs of delivery. It is like receiving junk mail with
postage due, but you have to pay for it whether you want it or not. If
you should receive a notice saying that you have some junk mail with
postage due, it will be perfectly OK with the postmaster if you don't
want to pay the postage. Just tell him you don't want to pay and he
he won't give you the junk. No problem! Try telling your ISP that you
don't want to pay for the connection time you waste while receiving
SPAM. Spammers force you to pay for something you don't want. This
constitutes robbery. Spammers do not work for a living. They commit
crimes. They should all go to jail. Another anti-social function of
spammers is their marketing of highly offensive and illegal materials,
such as child pornography for example. Also they market illegal copies
of software and illegal TV signal de-scramblers. Another favorite
illegal activity of spammers is the circulation of chain letters and
the building of pyramid make-me-rich-quick schemes. In the case of
junk mail you receive in your postal inbox, almost all of it comes from
perfectly legal and legitimate businesses which are trying to promote
perfectly legal products and services. The junk mail you receive in
your postal inbox has a social and economic purpose. SPAM has only a
criminal purpose.
