Is it made by AMD? All the 386/40s that Ive seen were. I dont think
that Intel made any.

I dont have anything to compare with, but Im fairly sure they do.
I have Perl for DOS here that needs one and it takes an age to
load.

Ill certainly keep my eyes open on the secondhand market. My SurvPC
philosophy is not to buy anything new. BTW theres two different
kinds of co-processor, just as theres two different processors.
Theres the 387SX and the 387DX. Mines an SX.
