A lot of dos users have used a boot floppy with the write tab locked.
There are lots of multi-boot options that will fit on one. and if in dos,
then it seems like the sabotage could not alter the system files without
running something like FDISK. Likewise, I spoze you could put a boot
on a CD ROM.

A lot of us have upgraded drives. but it that hard to use the old drive
like a RAID, just to store personal data.
