Chad & Jude:

Since I get this list as a digest I'm behind on my comments.

Ben & Garry are both right on when it comes to Steve Gibson...

Steve Gibson's web site is <http://grc.com/> and he has several products.
One is "SpinRite 5.0" which is DOS based Assembly code and is very useful as
well as being highly reliable - I have saved many an older hard drive
because of Spinrite versions 1 through 5. Some of the other stuff on his
site are related to his interest/fasination with the internet. Lots of folks
haven't had the practical experience that Steve brings to the table.

Mike Magee at The Inquirer in the UK is an old fashioned journalist who
doesn't like to be told he doesn't know his mouse from a DSP chip. Any
comments by Mike about Steve go back nearly twenty years. They are a
personality difference (Steve used to have a column at the old InfoWorld
print version) and it is not worth going over...

ZoneAlarm is by a completely different developer <www.zonealarm.com> . There
are some known incompatabilities with ZoneAlarm. However, it is still the
number one used software-based firewall. We have seen less problems with
ZoneAlarm after doing BIOS upgrades on some of the '486 & '586 based SURVPC.

His zonealarm package messed up at least two computers that I know about.
Mine and a friend's who also downloaded that package and installed it.
Unfortunately he gets great reviews in the computer magazines too.
