My own sad part of the tale was a recent as the early 1990's, when I
acquired a Dodge B250 van and a new Ford Taurus. Both were riddled with
problems, and I finally went with Nissans and haven't looked back since. I
really WANTED to "buy American" (relatives in the assembly business) but
after the 2nd brake re-do on the Taurus, and the van stalling out in the
middle of precarious left turns, I figured the hell with THIS, and started
looking at other options.

I wasn't thinking analogy so much as expressing a hope that we see a similar
shift in attitudes towards Windows. Hopefully as more folks read up on the
latest security fiasco, and reboot after the 2nd blue screen of the day,
they'll say the hell with THIS and think in terms of alternatives. That's
preferable in my mind to the government either trying to "fix" Microsoft
(there's a scary thought) or worse, limiting consumer choices (I don't trust
THEM either!).

OK, so analogies get silly very quickly, but the pickup-with-no-bed DOES
sort of fit... nah. I won't go there! :)
