Hi Day,
About "Multi Os-ing like multi-tasking?" of January 23:
DB> Linux... ...assumes it is running a network... ...I dont need to
DB> keep it runing in the background. ...the only thing I used every
DB> day that did not was Arachne... ...Arachne lacks USENET...
^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^
I tried `Arachne' and i may return to it, eventually. I found that
the default TelNet "plug-in" is poor, it wouldn't compare to `MS-Kermit'
which has a user-programming language that's rich enough to write a tiny
NewsGroup read/post utility (but it won't work with all ~NNTP~ servers).
If you liked `Arachne v1.70c' and now regret that work on it seems to be
on hold, i am with you. I had to install `Windows for WorkGoups v3.11',
but even the `WfWG' browsers became "obsolete", thanks to the WebMasters
who are determined to make me "evolve"... I just entered the mail-list,
perhaps you happen to still use `Arachne' to access the graphic contents
of the Net and if that's so, perhaps you also know of a few 16-Bit tools
for graphic editing as well? :^) I know that's a far stretch, starting
from "Multi Os-ing like multi-tasking?", but i have a hard time creating
`Windows'-like buttons with greys that will render well in browsers with
only 16/256 colours. I thought i could ask here, about graphic editors.
I am now using `PainBrush' to create the BitMap and `GWSDOS' converts my
.BMP graphic to .GIF format. At first, i desperately needed tools which
would let me create graphics with "transparent" contours and now i think
i'm making "transparent" colours against my will... If anybody here has
a suggestion, for graphic edition, which would put me in control, euh...
Please! Let me know what i can use to get acceptable results. The .GIF
images i made are available at: www3.sympatico.ca/bicephale/english.gif
and www3.sympatico.ca/bicephale/francais.gif - i'm using `NetScape', the
last French version available to me is 3.03 (unpopular with WebMasters).
Should anyone be curious about how i can read or post articles with
`MS-Kermit', i just read a ~WEB~ page (which no longer exists) called "I
live in Siberia' and started from there... My `MS-Kermit' .INI file may
still be found using DejaNews, it's also available on my own ~WEB~ site.
Salutations, :)
