I think you are referring to the DOSKEY/HISTORY command.  Enter DOSKEY/?
for a help screen. If you execute the DOSKEY command, it will remember all
command lines entered from then on (until you switch off).  You can use
the arrow keys to go through them and correct past mistakes before
re-entering them.

If you put DOSKEY in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file it will remember every command
line (until the buffer is full, or you reboot).  DOSKEY/HISTORY will list
command lines starting from the beginning.  If the list scrolls off the
screen, you can use DOSKEY/HISTORY|MORE to read the record page by page,
or DOSKEY/HISTORY>FILE.TXT to save it to a file.

Note that this only works for DOS command lines.  If you want to spy on
the kids, to see where they have been surfing, I have heard of other
ways of logging keystrokes to a hidden file, but this is not one of them.
