Dear Glenn G.:
All that stuff about Arachne's supposed "superiority" to other
Dos apps is great for those who want to debate fine points. The simple
fact is, even Arachne 1.69 or later, Linda and many other users, are
unwilling to use, forget the platform. Yes, maybe there are differences
and Arachne or Opera don't do newsgroups, etc. I have no bootable
media, so I must "risk" my drive to install Linux to get full WWW access.
This is dangerous to try to resize or remake a new partition for Linux
or whatever you want, if you want a seperate drive. I feel I could just
as well written this to Arachne List as to Survpc. I am working on a way
to get another drive {external}, so I can backup all my data should the
drive crash. Then I could restore the same drive image after the fixing
the drive and re-installing DOS. The only other method is to go out and
get another machine and hope that it will work with this drive, or just
through out the present PC and go with the other platform. It doesn't
matter that it's a Pentium, but what do you find much out there these
days that isn't? There is an Acer at Goodwill here, or my friend has
an old 386PC on a farm 30 miles from here. Those are my options.
Yours,
Thomas/Tom
