I didn't know about this potential problem with NetMail for DOS;
however, I think I know the solution.  This program comes with a
very nice feature in its setup program.  You can simply check the
box "Enable Flood Control" and you can specify a maximum message
size for the program to download.  I myself have never tested this
feature.  BTW, I don't know of any other email programs that come
with such a special feature like this.
