Hard to say not knowing them but costs are prohibitive if you must pay
others to do these things you can buy a better machine for less.

Usually you see some information when the machine boots.  There are
utlities that will try to analyze the hardware or you can just unplug the
controller and look up the FCC number then go to the manuf website
and cross-ref part numbers.

A card that stands in a slot on the motherboard with a ribbon cable leading
to the hard drive.

Possibly but some early CD drives ran off the soundcard.
