Early IDE drives would be trashed if you manage to initiate the low level
formatting sequence.  I have no idea which are which, I do remember there
are some this should not be done to.

No, low level formatting won't get ALL hidden virus.  If I recall the
'Moneky Virus'
requires a special program and formatting won't get rid of it (even low level
formatting).

If using Ontrack's DiskManager software this must all be done from within
DiskManager.
