Hello all,

Below is my original message that I was going to sent to the list.

>>>>>>>>>>
Hoping someone here can help me resolve a problem or at least help
me understand what is going on. For years I have been retrieving
and sending my e-mail from the same ISP (erinet/voyager/corecomm)
using NetDial for DOS 1.3 (C)-1996/97 by Marc S. Ressl, SMTPOP12,
PMPOP, and Pegasus Mail for DOS. I have also used The Bare Bones
DOS email system. v3.2 2001 by JDC (James David Chapman) to receive
(no success sending though). I also used Arachane 1.43 to send and
receive e-mails.

Now all of a sudden I can no longer send or receive e-mails in any
of the above DOS programs. I keep getting a "could not resolve
host" error message. Using the same setup (as far as mail server,
DNS addresses etc.) I can send and receive in Windows 3.1 and
Windows 98 (using a myriad of e-mail clients). I can understand
having problems with SMTP/ESMTP etc. but POP3?

Why is this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Meanwhile back at the ranch...

I no longer need help in getting the above to work (sort of), I was
able to get the above to work my using the server address
(xxx.xx.xx.xxx) instead of the server name (mymailserver.com). I
had tried this before but evidently didn't have the correct numbers.

I don't like doing it this way because the server address changes
from connection to connection. I seems to work OK on POP3, but
sometimes does not work on SMTP and gives a "501 5.1.8 Sending
Domain Must Exist" error. Then I must go in and manually change to
another server address.  :=(

Now my question is basically the same, Why is this? Why must I use
the mailserver address in DOS but not in Windows, especially when it
has worked lo these many years on the same ISP?

Thank you.

Doug
