I have subscribed about a year ago, but I am more like a 'listener' than a 'lister'. >> ... >> Where are we today? Who's living where? Using what hardware? >> Running what OS? Working in what fields or on what projects? I subscribed because I got involved in a new project, where we are using PC-DOS on a 386-sx platform. We use a Dimm-PC 386B, wich is a complete PC on a 6.8 x 4 cm (2.7 x 1.6 inch) DIMM board. It has a 386sx processor, 1MB of RAM and 2MB of HD (SSD) and runs at 33MHZ (can run at 40, but we are not power hungry and want to reduce power and heat). In my early days of computing, I used a Sinclair SX81 (yes the Z80 processor again) with the 16Kb memory upgrade (yes, it's a K). Than I started with a two-floppy 8088 PC with the full 640 KB of memory. Soon I built in a huge (physical size) 20Mb HD to be up to date. along the time, I have been using several 2-3-468 and Pentium whatever PC's to keep up with the latest Windows versions. Now I have a 1GHz PC with 128MB of RAM both at work and at home (State of the art... some time ago). So seemed a big step back at the start, but looking at the fast response of this modest configuration, I often wonder what keeps the mighty WinXP machines here at the office busy enough to irritate their users. >> ... >> I want to hear some noise. I suggest 'Studio Brussel' (stubru.be), but that might be a bit difficult to receive on FM outside of Belgium.
