I am using Partition Magic 4 with no problems with booting with boot magic
or resizing partitions. Try making sure that lilo is install on the boot
sector of the prinary partition and boot magic is actually booting lilo which
boots linux. This will let you setup backup kernels by typeing backup or
similar. Also make sure the root partition is not over the 1024 cylinder
limit.
