rxvt needs to have been compiled with xpm background support. Largo
describes how to do this (along with using /transparent/ backgrounds)
on his Window Maker Tips and Tricks page at
http://wm.current.nu/tips.html.
If you use Window Maker check out his site. It is a great resource.
