File-Settings-Network Tab-Incoming Mail section.
In here you specify your POP account. IUn der the info you provide is
where you place the password. I never need to give my password. when
checking mail.

Try the 4th icon from the left . The one with the envelope and blue
question mark. It is the "Check Mail" icon. Alternatively you can go
"File-CheckMail" from the menu.
I heard from a question I posted about automatically checking mail
that the 1.1 alpha release of KMail now supports that too.
