I dunno. What did you do? Compilation was painless here. Really, I'm not
saying this be funny, recent CVS, ( except for the dagon break down two
weeks ago, and the main hardware RAID problem this week, ) has been o.k.
MOST of the time. You might want to try the Gnome faq to make sure there's
nothing obvious you missed, and also watch the mailing list--for
frequently posted errors/issues with compilation and performance. Remember
if you have problems to post --be it here or somewhere else--say what you
tried and what seemed to go wrong, so you might get the helpful feedback
you need to get things up and running. If it seems too long, then start
one app at a time. Since you are probably building things like this:
audiofile, esd, glib, gtk+, imlib, gtk-engines, ORBit, gnome-libs,
gnome-core, gnome-objc, then start with the first app that gave you
problems, and then consult further down the line, as you get each
compiled. That will keep you from swamping _either_ list. One thing to do
is to make sure you have all dependencies satisfied and to remember that
there are deps outside of the gnome package that you need to build
gnome--like certain VERSIONS of gettext, autoconf, etc. Also make note
that if you build CVS, everything in the dependency below what you are
building should be checked out AGAIN and rebuilt. If you like I can
give you a brief rundown of the basics of what I did to get CVS gnome and
co running on this machine. Mail me privately, if you like.
