Hi Joseph:

I here you. And I have the same data you have, and the price does
include Manuals..in fact its the wholesale cost for boxed sets for US
vendors. Doesn't make me too happy when I see the cost of SuSE here in
Canada at 59-69.00, CDN currency issues aside...but that's a story for
another day. I know my comments were harsh but also realistic. As much
as I can peddle SuSE as a distributor (which I am not at this time) I do
not influence the policies, marketing and business decisions of SuSE
exec's in Germany, after all its their show. This can be done however if
SuSE users, and distributors were to influence the management of SuSE in
positive ways as to the potential of the NA market place.

Based on the level of advertising and marketing witnessed over the past
two years, major companies attracted to Linux are fortunately or
unfortunately attracted to RedHat as its a smooth structured machine
that through the leadership of its executive has walked that delicate
line between commercial and open source based software. 95% market share
does not come overnight and not without investment, commitment and
insight.

My point in writing this is so promote a strong second contender as my
concerns and those of others is that the SuSE distro that we all love
and use will fade into oblivion in NA rapidly as it appears that there
is an insufficient commitment and resources to make it attractive to the
emerging corporate players, both by companies investing in linux and
companies considering a transition/implementation of linux. Currently
the front runner both in partnerships, support and deployments are the
guys in the red hats. If us lizards want a piece of this market, and
preserve our favourite OS, selling it on our own (which I cant) is not
enough. Rather, some brilliant strategic partnerships, seriouse support
contracts with major vendours and a strong/create promotional campaign
will go a long way. These things take wisdom, balls and money/. I
currently have two of the three but looking at SuSE for the third..lol.
