Checkout the 'find' command. It will let you search the disk for files
meeting certain characterstisics and then execute command operations on
what it finds. You could also just write a basic shell script to do what
you want and put it or some find stuff inside a cronjob to be run at such
frequency as you choose. ex: "find . -name *.old -ok {} \;"
This would find files in the current dir (.) bye _name_ with and *.old
name and and then ask you (-ok) if it's ok to remove these files.
