If you're using 5.3 ppp is built into the kernel as is firewall and
masquerading
You have to make sure you have ppp installed with the installion though,
check in yast/install upgrade packages that you have it installed.
If you'd like an easy way to connect use wvdial as recommended on this list.

ppp
