Very considerate :-) The problem here is that gcc is linked to egcs,
not the old gcc compiler. Not everyone is using egcs yet, so on trees
that use the old gcc, builds fail. My question to you all is, how do I
compile with the old gcc *without* unlinking egcs (i.e., installing
gccfront)? I want to use egcs for my own stuff, but I'd like to be able
to compile packages which use the other.

Yep. I have a very active imagination; it's been a personal
condition of mine for years now. * -Bruce Sterling
