The long answer is that I believe the route you were attempting was
intended as a full installation of SuSE from a reachable directory on
your hard disk.  Unfortunately I can't recall the correct procedure for
doing what you're trying to do from YaST - I just sort of wing it and
usually get there, sorry.

The short answer is that I installed the latest version of YaST today by
typing as root: rpm -U yast*(whatever its called).rpm 

And it worked - when I fired up YaST, it had the correct version number.
