Hi Christopher,
You basically don't need to recompile your kernel. You also can setup your eth0
device via Yast. I myself have recompiled the kernel. You don't need much
network support. You can skip firewall and masquerading support. Skip NFS and
SMB and token ring support. You have to get TCP/IP support and you also have to
choose your network device.
As DHCP client you can get either: dhclient from http://www.isc.org/ the ftp
site is: ftp://ftp.isc.org/isc/dhcp/ or you can get dhcpc the ftp site is:
ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/network/daemons/ . You can start them up
via dhclient eth0 or dhcpc eth0 . By te way you only need one of the dhclients.
The dhclient is also delivered at the Suse FTP site. ftp.suse.com .
By the way installing an dhclient from Suse 6.0 is very easy.
