This seems like alot more work than it should be.  If you have Samba setup
already, you can just login with the remote computer using some username and
password.  Doesn't have to be pub.  For instance, I have this .BAT file on my
Windows 95 desktop.
net use h: //Precious/Taveren
Where Precious is the name of the Linux box running Samba, and Taveren is the
user.  When run it asks me for the password and then maps the /home/Taveren
directory to h:.  And since a directory was mapped to a drive letter as the
root of it, I can't go up any directories.  I only have access to the
/home/Taveren directory.  Hope this gives you a little to think about.
