Well after whats seems weeks of trial and error,i`m now
very,very,stuck !!.
I have a fully working 2.0.37 kernel, with modules that load.
All hardware works.
However when i compile a 2.2.x kernel all works, execpt that
the cdrom and its filesystem fail.
I`ve tried everything,building it in,as modules etc,etc.
Done all the upgrades, although i see some of you didn`t do that.
Built the new modutils package as an rpm, which i can add and remove
at will, cause this fails with the 2.0.36/7 kernels.
cat /proc/filesystems see`s iso9660 when its built into the kernel,
there is a line for /cdrom in /etc/fstab that works for the old
kernel.
Even tried changing the actual drive,to see if i had developed a
faulty drive.(nope).still don`t work.
Changed drive from /dev/hdb to /dev/hdd to see if that helped.(no).
This was changed in hardware too of course.
If anyone has any ideas at all, please lets here them !!.
I checked out the mailing list archives on kernel.org for similar
problems, and there is some reference to this, but with kernels alot
older than this.
Everything else works fine though.
Even done a complete re-install with yast,including the 2.2.0pre7
This as you know has the iso9660 filesystem as module.
This again fails, but all other drives including floppys and ls120
drive mount no problems.
