Well, kind of :)
You can issue "make" with the parameter "-j <num>", where "num" is the
amount of concurrent processes. Talking about applications: multithreaded
applications (like mySQL) make use of multiple processors, so do
applications which start multiple child processes (like Apache or Squid)
