Ok, I'm thouroughly stumped here, Ive compile the sound andppp both as
modules with less then positive results.
The sound is an 100% SB (SB16-SCSI board) which I have given the
correct parameters within conf.modules
ie:
alias sound sb
alias char-major-14 sound
options sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=5 mpu_io=0x330
but it refuses to load unless I manually run '/sbin/modprobe sb' but if
I run it at a console, the system locks up, I have to run it within X. I
am able to compile it into the kernel with the same parameters but every
other boot causes it to lockup just after the "Starting kswapd v 1.5"
forcing me to reboot the machine. The 2.0.36 kernel worked fine with the
same parameters as I am setting for the 2.2.0p7 in both modular and
builtin form.
Now the ppp module itself just plain ignores the hell out of whatever
I have attempted to try and start it with, whether it be manually or
automatically upon bootup, I end up with the same results, no ppp. When
I run modprobe or insmod on the ppp module it acts like its loading, but
when I attempt to connect with ppp it says that 'the kernel lacks ppp
support'. The conf.modules file contains the alias entries for ppp but
I'm not having any luck.
I'm kinda fed up with looking for possible solutions, so if anyone
else can think of something I would really appreciate a response.
