1 thing about AMD processors is that they can often be found with
cheaper-end mother boards. Running under the limit-testing-pressures of
Linux not-so-solid boards can get a bit flakey at high processing/bus
speeds, and you may need to underclock your chip/bus speed a bit to
avoid memory errors. check out http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11
i would recommend a solid  motherboard before deciding on intel or AMD
