have a look (this is for compiling wvdial)
1) To be able to compile the source in SuSE 5.3
youll first need to start yast and install gpp which is a C++ compiler its
in the development section of packages.
 yast
choose and install packages>change create configuration>development>gpp GNU C++ 
compiler
F-10 >save configuration>load configuration>start installion
