I determined the problem with my failing smtp connection was is /etc/inetd.conf seems the line with mail got commented out, although I dont know how.... Neverthe less its working fine now Also my leafnode is working perfectly!! I came across this most excellent site that ironed out the problems I was having, followed to the letter and wallah!! http://h2o.hansol.co.kr/lg/issue09/newsserver.html this is an excellent how to for leafnode.
