The OSS drivers you buy are alot easier. I thought I knew
sound setup for my awe32, but I have spent about 10 hours
fiddling around with /etc/conf.modules to get it to where it
works perfectly.
It's easy to use the standard drivers, but you need to put lines
in /etc/.conf.modules for your specific card. There is good
documentation in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound, but it is
difficult to understand at first.
Luckily, most cards have been setup by now, and you can find the right
conf.modules statements in the newsgroups or here, just by asking.
But with OSS, there is no isapnp to deal with, nor conf.modules.
I did learn about module options though, so there is something to say
for doing it the hard way.
