[SuSE Linux] Upgrading from 5.3 to 6.0 - suggestions needed

I'm upgrading from SUSE 5.3 to 6.0 and was wondering how painless or painful this can be?  Do I need to reformat my hard drives and start from scratch?  Can I install ontop of 5.3?  I'm a real newbie so any suggestions would be apreciated...
