Here's my device section:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Trio32/Trio64"
VendorName "Unknown"
BoardName "Unknown"
#VideoRam 2048
# Use Option "nolinear" if the server doesn't start up correctly
# (this avoids the linear framebuffer probe). If that fails try
# option "nomemaccess".
#
# Refer to /usr/X11R6/lib/doc/README.S3, and the XF86_S3 man page.
# Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
Option "power_saver"
EndSection
Straight SaX generated with the one line added. The monitor
blanks in 5 minutes and shuts down shortly afterward.
I, too, toasted a monitor trying to get the right configuration
(I was using Slackware), so I understand.
