Hi,

After upgrading from 2.0.36 to 2.2.3 I don't seem to be able to get ftape
(ftape v3.04d 25/11/97) working.

______________________________________________________________________
While booting, the message ~can't locate module char-major-4~ flashes
by repeatedly, but isn't written to any log that I can find. I don't
know if this is related to ftape, which I take from the How-to
requires explicit blocking.

root@fmsb7:/opt/kde/kde-1.1.1 > ls -l /dev/ftape
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root            4 Mar 21 12:31 /dev/ftape -> rft0
root@fmsb7:/opt/kde/kde-1.1.1 > ls -l /dev/rft0 /dev/qft0
crw-rw-rw-   1 root     root      27,   0 Oct 18  1998 /dev/qft0
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root            4 Mar 23 15:05 /dev/rft0 -> qft0

But the problem can't be only wrongly installed devices:

Does zftape require ftape? The How-to, f v3.0, August 1998, says that
one must "load both." When I compiled the new kernel, I specified:

grep FTAPE config*
CONFIG_FTAPE=y
CONFIG_ZFTAPE=m

root@fmsb7:/var/log > lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
zftape                 58464  -1  (autoclean)
dummy0                   684   1  (autoclean)

root@fmsb7:/var/log > insmod ftape
insmod: ftape: no module by that name found

Help with diagnosing this problem is appreciated.
