Gidday, I can confirm the same thing happens on an E5000 (4x250MHz, 1GB RAM, FCAL SSA). I captured this during a install attempt via a serial console (massaged to remove non printable characters):
..... VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem). Moving Ramdisk mkmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k char-major-4, errno = 2 emory successfully freed >>> SuSE installation program v1.2 (c) 1996-2001 SuSE GmbH <<< Starting hardware detection... > floppy.1: get nvram > floppy.2: klog info > misc.9: kernel log > misc.1: misc data > misc.2.1: io > misc.2.2: dma > misc.2.3: irq > misc.3: FPU > misc.3.1: DMA > misc.3.2: PIC > misc.3.3: timer > misc.3.4: RTC > cpu.1: cpuinfo > memory.1: main memory size > pci.1: get pci data > pci.4: build list > sys.1: cpu > monitor.1: ddc > misc.5: misc data > ide.1.1: read info > ide.1.2: read info > ide.1.3: read info > ide.1.4: read info > ide.1.5: read info > ide.1.6: read info > ide.1.7 ... and then it just stops. My machine has no PCI interfaces, let alone any IDE interfaces. Maybe a gentle massaging of the Suse install program's config file/script (if such exists) maybe a solution. However I've not managed to find the file/code responsible for this function. I tried an ealier version of Redhat i.e. 6.2 which installed just fine however didn't appear to stable (e.g. pinging an IP dropped it back out to Openboot). I've used RH6.2 on and Ultra-1 for a couple of years quite satisfactorily. I'll look forward to any other pearls of wisdom in responce to your message! It'll be great to get SuSE running on this kind of machine as more of these devices (Ex000 series anyway) are starting to be decommissioned and junked! (I paid $150 for mine! and I know of one other possible). I'm a newbie in SPARC hardware, but that didn't stop to try Suse 7.3 for Sparc :). After reading a few Howto's I was able to boot the CDROM. But (there's always one), after the kernel's boot, the install programa (YaSt 2) executes, an run a couple of tests.. One of them is a hardware test, that freeze at "ide.1.7".. I try sending kernel parameters, but is useless.... The hardware is a Enterprise 3500 with 2Gb RAM, 4 disk Sun 18Gb and a CDROM drive. Can anybody tell me, if that happen already... I don't know what else should I try... Thanx in advance! PD: The system is actually running Solaris 2.6. - -- .:: Pablo Niklas ::. .:: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ::. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Grafiti del dia // Today's Graffity // Graffity von heute: ... with liberty and justice for all ... who can afford it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8s29u18pXFOsyhMIRAp2UAJsHZntjiqMlEEgYzH6FcfjFOEeIHACeJyyI gVPBuuAolELQqut+asHCTAc= =MCbK -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
