Actually, the compression part isn't needed on Sun machines. If I remember
correctly, its actually NOT a good idea on slower machines to compress the
kernel. It only saves disk space and maybe, fractionally initial disk load
time. (Which on slower machines is lost during the un-compression step)
That's mostly a vestige of the x86 systems that have the memory issues.
(Suns don't have the memory issues that the x86s have) I know at least for
my little SparcClassic, it works just fine without the compression.

As to the original question from Richard, I believe that's everything you
have to do. With the addendum that Joseph had of modifying silo.conf if
you're moving vmlinux to a specific version name.

The last part, moving vmlinux to /boot is done with gzip -c --best vmlinux >
vmlinuz (or vmlinuz.2.4.xx) and update silo.conf if required.
While I'm thinking about it, does anyone know why when I compiled Reiserfs
support into the kernel it caused a panic. It appears to be useless as a
module
since it complains that the kernel doesn't include Reiserfs support.
