I'm not sure this is the best mailist to submit the question but here goes:

I compiled kernel 2.4.20 on a Sparcstation10 which comes with Bind9. This allows me to
make use of the Sparc as an IPv6 nameserver.

When I issue queries on the nameserver (to itself), I noticed that only A records were
requested, which defeated the point. This was cured by modifying /etc/nsswitch.conf
settings and replacing dns by dns6.

By performing further tests, I realised that the resolver on the nameserver issues two
requests : one AAAA and then an A request. This second query occurs even if the
resolver receives a AAAA response !

The problem is that when a response for the A request does not arrive, a ping on the
IPv6 address is delayed until the resolver decides to timeout on the A query.

Is there a way to disable A lookups after successful AAAA response ?

Thanks
Eivan Cerasi
