What, specifically, was slow? The booting process? COmmand line response? Disk access?
When I installed SUSE 7.3 in a Ultra30 things ran great except for the KDE 2.x windowing system. Entering some Creator/3D specific stuff at the bottom of the /etc/system file speeded things up considerably on the screen. However, NFS never did work worth a tinker's dam.
