No, in this case it probably even depends upon using the binary NVidia driver.

How will a power management daemon (probably running as root) set $DISPLAY
before calling s2ram, the DISPLAY variable is user specific.

This can of course be done, with help from HAL and probably a desktop applet,
but not easily in s2ram.
