*Upstate Transportation Forum Speaker Spotlights*

*Jeff Olson* is an architect and planner who has been involved in greenways,
open space, active living and alternative transportation projects for more
than 20 years. He has had a diverse career with experience in the public,
private, and non-profit sectors. His unique vision and leadership ability
are important assets to projects ranging from regional planning to site
specific projects and programs. He is an avid bicyclist and skier who has
the perspective of a parent with three young children.  Jeff will be
speaking during Friday’s lunch at the Transportation Forum.

*Fernando de Aragon* has served as director of the Ithaca-Tompkins County
Transportation Council for the last ten years. There, he has focused on
efforts to preserve current infrastructure investments, while providing
support for expanded services that provide alternatives to SOV use,
including car sharing, multi-use trails, bike/ped facilities and expanded
transit. Previously he was a Senior Planner for the MPO and the county
government in Palm Beach County, Florida. Fernando holds degrees in natural
resources management and regional planning from Rutgers University and a
Ph.D. in energy management and policy from the University of Pennsylvania.
Fernando will discuss regional and multi-county transit initiatives during
the “Getting the Gorilla to Work for You: Collaborating with Large
Employers” session at the Transportation Forum.

*Gary Ferguson* is the Executive Director of the Downtown Ithaca Alliance, a
comprehensive, full-service downtown management and revitalization program
focused on the urban core of Ithaca, New York. The Downtown Ithaca Alliance
has been a catalyst for new housing, office, and retail development and the
program oversees a ten year development strategic plan for downtown Ithaca.
Gary currently serves as the President of the New York State Urban Council
and is an active participant and former board member of the International
Downtown Association. In Ithaca, Gary currently serves on the boards of the
Cayuga Medical Center, the Finger Lakes Wine Center, the State Theatre, and
the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce.  He has worked in downtown
development and management in cities in Ohio, Colorado, Massachusetts, and
Maine. Gary and his wife Lisa live in Ithaca on a fifty acre farm where they
raise cashmere and angora goats and produce exotic fiber yarns and products.
Gary will talk about the Downtown Ithaca Plan (2020) during the
Transportation Forum’s “Showing Off Your Unique Place with a Community
Partnership” session.
