All,

Starting again this October, *TC3's Green Technology Program will be
offering a series of Solar PV Systems - Levels 1-5* classes at their Dryden
campus. These courses are an intensive classroom and hands-on training
designed for successful sales, design, and installation work in the
renewable energy industry, and specifically focused on preparation for the
NABCEP PV Installer Exam. They are suitable for those who would like to add
solar electric systems to their existing service offerings, or who would
like to be better informed about these technologies. Classes run every other
Saturday throughout October and November, and detailed descriptions of the
classes can be found below and at http://www.tc3.biz/ge_renewable.asp. If
you are interested in registering, please email Ruth Midgley at
[email protected], or call 607-844-6586. Some scholarship funding may be
available.

Solar PV Systems Level I

This course is designed for those who would like to add solar electric
systems to
their existing service offerings, or who would like to be better informed
about
these technologies. Students will be given an introduction to the solar
industry,
electricity, the solar resource in Central New York, and PV technology.
Students
will learn to calculate electricity usage, size PV systems, prepare a site
analysis,
and select hardware and components. They will create a basic cost estimate
and
learn ways to evaluate and demonstrate the economics of simple residential
solar electric systems.
Prerequisites: None

TC3 main campus, Dryden
CEPE 559 01 / 0.8 CEU
October 8 / 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
$259.00
Solar PV Systems Level 2

This course focuses on the physical installation of solar PV systems.
Students
will be introduced to materials planning, step by step installation
procedures for
roof and ground mounted systems, recommended construction techniques,
wiring and grounding practices, monitoring options, system commissioning,
and
recommended quality assurance procedures for system reliability and
durability.
There will also be a field trip to a roof-mounted 5.52 kW solar electric
project and
ground-mounted 8.1kW solar electric project in the area to see actual
operating
systems.
Prerequisites: SOLAR PV Level 1 or permission from instructor

TC3 main campus, Dryden
CEPE 560 01 / 0.8 CEU
October 22 / 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
$259.00
Solar PV Systems Level 3

This course has its focus on advanced system design including such topics as
more detailed procedures for sizing solar arrays, for estimating loads for
new
construction, and how to calculate the output from fixed tilt systems such
as roof
mounted arrays versus variable tilt systems such as ground mounted system.
The course will also cover more advanced economic analysis, and an
introduction to the first half of the National Electric Code (NEC) 690 and
referenced sections including such topics as the sizing of conductors and
overcurrent protection, system disconnects, and wiring methods.
Prerequisites: SOLAR PV Level 2 or permission from instructor

TC3 main campus, Dryden
CEPE 561 01 / 0.8 CEU
November 5 / 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
$259.00
Solar PV Systems Level 4

This course will cover the second half of the National Electric Code (NEC)
690
and referenced sections including such topics as grounding practices, ground
fault
protection and interruption, interconnection methods, batteries, and system
marking and labeling. In addition, students will learn about troubleshooting
scenarios including techniques for diagnosing problems in the field and how
to
design corrective actions. The course will also include the design and
commissioning of other types of solar electric systems including Critical
Load
Battery Backup Systems and Off-Grid Systems.
Prerequisites: SOLAR PV Level 3 or permission from instructor

TC3 main campus, Dryden
CEPE 576 01 / 0.8 CEU
November 19 / 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
$259.00
Solar PV Systems Level 5

This final course will focus on additional preparation for taking the NABCEP
exam. In addition, the course will introduce the broader skills useful to
working in
the solar industry, including understanding renewable heating options, heat
loads
and audits in order to size solar electric systems to meet the needs of
geothermal
heating and cooling systems, as well as how to compare solar electric to
wind
systems from the stand points of site, power production, life-time and
economics.
Prerequisites: SOLAR PV Level 4 or permission from instructor

TC3 main campus, Dryden
CEPE 577 01 / 0.8 CEU
December 3 / 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
