I imagine this would be especially interesting to people of African descent, as Barbados's government and many businesses are run primarily by people of African descent; the nation’s population is 90 percent black, 4 percent white, and the remaining 6 percent "Asian and mixed” (2008 figures). The Possibility of a Green Economy in Barbados Friday April 10 from 6-9pm Vegetarian Potluck 6-7pm Talk from Allan Franklin 7-8pm 207 Giles St Apt 1, Ithaca Free and open to all Bring a vegetarian dish to share! We'll eat and then enjoy a presentation from Allan Franklin. Like many other Small Island Developing States (SIDS), the issue of sustainable development is deeply rooted within the Barbadian psyche. Not surprisingly though, as many other nations, both small and large have experienced, refining the concept and practice of sustainability is immensely difficult. Allan Franklin will highlight the main development policies and strategies pursued by the Government of Barbados for economic development. Focusing primarily on the island’s sugar and tourism industries, and Government’s most recent focus on a Green Economy, he will examine the evolving relationship between the island’s economic policy and its sustainable development goals. Allan is the Senior Research Officer at the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport in Barbados. During this academic year he is a Fulbright Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow within CALS.
